May 11 (Bloomberg) -- Suntech Power Holdings Co., the world’s largest maker of polysilicon solar-power modules, may team up with Israel Electric Corp Ltd. on solar-power projects, Israel Electric Senior Vice President Yakov Hain said.
The two companies are discussing cooperation on research and development of solar-power technology, as well as teaming up to build power plants with existing technology, Hain said in a May 9 interview in Beijing. Hain, who is with an Israeli business delegation accompanying Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz in China, said he met with Suntech executives last week.
“Suntech is very interested in cooperating on subjects connected to photovoltaic technology and may be interested in financing R&D and joint projects,” Hain said. Suntech spokesman Rory Macpherson had no immediate comment on the report.
Israel is seeking to boost economic cooperation with China as growth falters in Europe, one of its main trading partners. The government is hoping to capitalize on technologies, especially cleantech, to attract Chinese investment.
